Yoü & I Video Fashion, part 6: Lady Gaga in Marian Newman
Posted on Monday, August 22, 2011
Marian created the nails on all the Interlude films for The Monster Ball Tour.
She was behind MUGLER Fall 2011 nails (including Gaga’s black claws) and the Edge of Glory cover “Tripple Nails” captured by Nick Knight.
This time Marian Newman did her magic for Yoü & I video and I’m happy to say Gaga Fashionland is the first site you can see below captures I was kindly sent on!
The first ones are the nails Gaga wore for The Walk: “She walked from NY to Nebraska and got damaged and needed help from robotics. The 2 nails are broken chic, fashion nails that have been repaired”.
Nude pink with silver wire. The swivel nails were riveted.

These are Gaga’s nails from The Lab scenes where Taylor Kinny is trying to fix her:
“These were wooden Minx’s I had made for me and I pinned them to go with the dress that was covered in gold pins“.

Yüyi’s nails are an alternative ‘breathing apparatus’.
Below you can see them in acrylic in a pink opaque, but for the video Marian’s made them of latex.

The nails in the scene where young Gaga is playing piano joined by her male alter ego Jo and the posterior dancing scene, are a special Minx made for Marian for MUGLER show back in March.

And the last ones are from the dancing scene: “These were Inkwell by CND with silver studs to go with the bondage suits“.

For those of you who are just about to ask “and the wedding nails?”, those were “Gaga’s own natural nails just like her Mum would have had them”.

Among many other questions, I asked Marian how long did all this take.
She answered smiling: “Everything was done so quickly! I suggest the nail design when the ‘look’ has been established and this is done by ‘evolution’ and team work rather than too much advance planning. Gaga usually seems to like my suggestions so I just have the time it takes for hair, make up and dressing to get the nails done! This time we were in a trailer in the middle of a corn field in nearly 40degs and I only had a tiny shelf! Its rock and roll!”
For more about Marian and her work, visit her official site. And while you’re there, make sure you check-out the Inks in the shop section: 20 seconds to touch dry, 60 seconds to smudge-proof and 2 mins to rock hard!
