Terry Richardson’s Diary: Lady Gaga in MORDEKAI, Ray Brown Fashion and Urban Outfitters

Posted on Tuesday, December 18, 2012

Terry Richardson has released a beautiful series of pictures yesterday, capturing Lady Gaga before, during and after The Rolling Stones “One More Shot” concert:

… in the car, on her way to soundcheck, wearing Saint Laurent SS13 look, accessorized with custom made MORDEKAI cage adorned with chains and her trademark cherub.

You’ll remember Gaga wearing MORDEKAI Crown Fruit and Flower Wreath and Rose Armor Rings & Flower Bracelets for the Guggenheim and Harrods FAME perfume launch events.

… backstage after the concert, in her custom made Ray Brown Fashion catsuit.

I had a chance to chat with Rhonda Zayas, graphic and fashion designer, illustrator and muse for rock fashion legend, Ray Brown:

“Ray Brown has been designing stage wear for the world’s most iconic rock bands for several decades. His clothing has graced Bon Jovi, Black Sabbath, Judas Priest, Muse and now Gaga, amongst many many others. The genre “rock fashion” would not be in existence if it were not for Ray Brown. High street fashion has been particularly inspired from his work with Judas Priest (leather and studs). The patchwork coat he created for Jon Bon Jovi is now with the Smithsonian, his work is legendary”.

“Particularly regarding the design for Lady Gaga, she wanted something “70′s rock”, “Ziggy Stardust” and what Ray does, as he does with all of his clients is to take the artist’s idea and create it into their “dream clothing”. I believe the pictures say volumes as to how comfortable she was in the piece created by Ray, and that is a direct reflection of him being the master of stage wear, which is an entirely different beast than everyday wear, or even high fashion. Stage wear needs to withstand the rigors of a performance/tour, and Ray specializes in that niche of fashion. The materials used to make the garment include stretch black velvet, and silver and gold leather encrusted with thousands of Swarovski crystals”.

… looove this one. Gaga and Terry backstage.

Leaving her Hotel in New York City: Lady Gaga in Saint Laurent

Posted on Sunday, December 16, 2012

Lady Gaga was photographed leaving her hotel in New York City yesterday, prior to The Rolling Stones concert, wearing lace blouse with ruffle bib and cuffs, sequin-trimmed tuxedo pants and leather biker jacket, look #44 from Saint Laurent SS13 runway.

The look was accessorized with metallic cage helmet, embellished with chains and gold cherub, and a pair of towering Pleaser boots.

Leaving her Hotel in São Paulo: Lady Gaga in Lydia Stedman

Posted on Monday, November 26, 2012

While in São Paulo, Gaga was captured outside her hotel, wearing gorgeous cropped leather short-sleeve top and matching high-waisted flared shorts.

The leather combo was presented at the annual London’s Graduate Fashion Week back in June and belongs to Kingston University fashion graduate Lydia Stedman “After Dark” collection.

The theme for Lydia’s graduate collection was “prompted by the late nights that come with studying a course like fashion. From midnight walks to the library to early morning bus rides home”.  The young designer took inspiration from everything she experienced: “This included the flickering lights and reflective surfaces of an underground nightclub as well as the frightening shadows which used to set my imagination running wild”.

When asked about her reaction to Gaga wearing her designs, Lydia said: “It’s all been so surreal. I’m a huge fan of Lady Gaga and saw her at Twickenham earlier this year. She wears the most amazing outfits, but I could never have dreamt she would choose one of mine. She’s styled the look in a different way to my graduate collection – but it’s even more exciting to see how my clothes have been mixed and matched to create something new”.

Visit Lydia Stedman to see the entire collection, the inspiration, the sketches, the lookbook…

Gaga styled the look with her Lanvin Way Shiner shades and trademark Pleaser ankle boots.

Leaving her Hotel in Paris: Lady Gaga in Viktor & Rolf

Posted on Tuesday, October 23, 2012

I’ve almost missed the series of candids of Gaga leaving her hotel in Paris, wearing silk charmeuse abstract animal print blouse and pants, the opening look from Viktor & Rolf Fall 2012 runway.

She teamed the ensemble with oversized fur coat with black wool inserts from the same collection, and accessorized with black cat eyes and black stilettos.

The Printed Tie Neck Blouse featuring draped front with asymmetrical button down fastening, ruched gathers the back and long voluminous sleeves with knife pleats and buttoned cuffs, is available at Shopbop.

While you’re in the changing room, you can also try the matching pleated wide-leg pants.

Thanks for your help, David!
